비트리 갤러리의 연례 기획 그룹전 〈Balanced Vol.8〉이 현재 진행 중입니다. 올해로 8회를 맞이한 Balanced는 회화, 조각, 사진 등 다양한 장르를 아우르며, 작가·컬렉터·갤러리 간의 균형 있는 관계를 지향하는 비트리 갤러리의 방향성을 담고 있습니다. 이번 전시는 ‘균형’을 단순한 형식적 조화가 아닌, 재료가 지닌 물성과 시간, 빛, 온도의 관계 속에서 형성되는 상태로 확장하여 살펴봅니다. 사진, 유리, 옻이라는 서로 다른 재료는 각기 다른 조건 속에서 반응하며 고유한 균형을 만들어냅니다. 김수강 작가는 반복적인 촬영과 인화 과정을 통해 사물의 밀도와 시간을 담아내며, 양유완 작가는 고온의 유리를 다루는 블로잉 기법으로 빛과 물질의 경계를 탐구합니다. 한결 작가는 옻칠의 물성을 기반으로 시간의 축적이 만들어내는 깊이 있는 표면을 선보입니다. 또한 이번 전시에서는 양유완·한결 작가의 협업 작품이 최초로 공개됩니다. 유리와 옻이라는 상반된 물성이 한 화면 안에서 조화를 이루며, 전시의 핵심 개념을 상징적으로 보여줍니다. 서로 다른 물성이 각자의 속도로 균형에 도달하는 순간을 경험해 보시기 바랍니다.
The Moment When Materials Find Balance _ Balance of Materials
B-tree gallery’s annual group exhibition, Balanced Vol.8, is currently on view. Now in its eighth edition, Balanced brings together diverse artistic genres—including painting, sculpture, and photography—while reflecting B-tree gallery’s commitment to fostering a balanced relationship between artists, collectors, and the gallery. This exhibition expands the notion of “balance” beyond formal harmony, exploring it as a state shaped by the interplay of materiality, time, light, and temperature. Photography, glass, and lacquer—each with distinct physical properties—respond to their own conditions and form unique points of equilibrium. Kim Sookang captures the density and temporality of objects through repeated processes of photographing and printing. Yang Yoowan explores the boundary between light and matter through glassblowing techniques that manipulate molten glass at high temperatures. Hangyeol investigates the materiality of lacquer, presenting surfaces shaped by the accumulation of time. The exhibition also features a collaborative work by Yang Yoowan and Hangyeol, presented for the first time. Bringing together the contrasting properties of glass and lacquer within a single composition, the work encapsulates the core concept of the exhibition. We invite you to experience the moment when different materials arrive at their own balance, each in its own time.

비트리 갤러리 부산점에서는 함도하 작가의 개인전 《Blooming emotions》가 현재 진행 중입니다. 이번 전시는 봄의 시작과 함께, 계절의 변화 속에서 피어나는 감정의 흐름을 조형적으로 풀어냅니다. 함도하의 작업은 클로버, 꽃, 풍선 등 친숙한 이미지를 바탕으로 전개되며, 밝고 선명한 색채와 입체적 조형을 통해 감정의 움직임을 시각화합니다. 반복과 중첩, 그리고 볼륨감 있는 형태는 감정이 응축되고 확장되는 과정을 드러내며, 보이지 않는 감정의 밀도와 에너지를 공간 속에서 경험할 수 있도록 합니다. 특히 작가는 ‘의인화된 가구’라는 독특한 방식으로 감정과 관계를 확장합니다. ‘Tom’, ‘Dona’와 같은 이름을 지닌 의자와 오브제들은 각기 다른 감정을 지닌 존재로 등장하며, 하나의 군집을 이루어 관계의 장을 형성합니다. 이들은 단순한 사물을 넘어, 기쁨과 사랑, 긴장과 같은 다양한 감정을 담은 존재로 다가옵니다. 밝고 경쾌한 화면 이면에는 균형과 대비를 바탕으로 한 치밀한 구조가 자리하며, 감정의 복합적인 층위를 드러냅니다. 작가는 특정 감정을 설명하기보다, 관람객 각자의 감정이 다시 피어날 수 있는 여백을 제시합니다. 《Blooming emotions》는 감정이 생성되고 확장되는 ‘과정’에 주목하며, 전시장 전체를 하나의 감정의 정원처럼 경험할 수 있도록 구성되었습니다. 작품 속에서 자신의 감정과 기억을 자연스럽게 마주해 보시기 바랍니다.

B-tree gallery Busan is currently presenting Blooming emotions, a solo exhibition by Ham Doha. Opening with the arrival of spring, the exhibition explores the flow of emotions that emerge and evolve with seasonal change. Ham Doha’s work unfolds through familiar motifs such as clovers, flowers, and balloons, visualizing emotional movement through vivid colors and sculptural forms. Repetition, layering, and volumetric structures reveal the processes through which emotions condense and expand, allowing viewers to experience their invisible density and energy within space. In particular, the artist extends themes of emotion and relationships through the unique concept of “personified furniture.” Chairs and objects, given names such as Tom and Dona, appear as individual beings with distinct emotional qualities, forming a collective presence within the exhibition. They move beyond functional objects to embody a wide range of human emotions, including joy, love, and tension. Beneath the bright and playful surface lies a carefully constructed balance of contrast and structure, reflecting the layered nature of emotion. Rather than defining a specific feeling, the artist creates space for each viewer’s emotions to emerge and resonate. Blooming emotions focuses on the ongoing process of emotional formation and expansion, transforming the exhibition space into a kind of emotional garden. 김수강의 작업은 주변에 무심히 놓인 사물을 깊고 느린 시선으로 바라보는 데서 출발한다. 작가는 사물을 단순한 대상이 아니라, 오랜 시간 응시할 때 비로소 드러나는 고유한 존재로 인식하며, 그 과정을 통해 이미지를 만들어간다. 이러한 태도는 그가 사용하는 검프린트(Gum Print) 기법과도 밀접하게 연결된다. 검프린트는 빛에 반응하는 감광액에 안료를 섞어 종이 위에 바른 뒤, 빛에 노출시키고 물로 씻어내 이미지를 드러내는 방식이다. 한 번의 인화로 완성되는 것이 아니라, 이 과정을 여러 번 반복하며 색과 형태를 겹겹이 쌓아 올리는 것이 특징이다.
이때 이미지는 기계적으로 정확하게 재현되기보다, 물의 흐름과 손의 압력, 시간의 차이에 따라 미묘하게 달라진다. 같은 이미지를 반복해도 매번 다른 결과가 만들어지는 이유다. 작가가 사물을 “깊이, 오래, 느리게” 바라보듯, 검프린트 또한 이미지가 완성되기까지 긴 시간을 필요로 한다. 여러 번의 덧입힘과 기다림 속에서, 이미지는 서서히 모습을 드러내며 가장 ‘그것다운’ 상태에 가까워진다. 그렇게 완성된 작업은 선명하게 규정되기보다, 부드럽고 깊은 층위를 지닌 채 존재한다. 이는 작가가 말하는 “가볍지도 무겁지도 않은 적당한 무게”와도 맞닿아 있으며, 관람자로 하여금 하나의 사물을 바라본다기보다 그 안에 머무는 시간을 경험하게 한다.
김수강의 작업은 단순한 사진이 아니라, 오랜 시간 축적된 시선과 물질적인 과정이 만들어낸 결과물이다. 검프린트라는 느리고 섬세한 기법을 통해, 작가는 사물이 지닌 고요한 존재감을 더욱 깊이 있게 드러낸다.
Kim Sookang’s work begins with a quiet attention to objects that often go unnoticed in everyday life. Rather than treating them as simple subjects, the artist regards these objects as entities that reveal their true presence only through prolonged and attentive observation. Her images are formed through this sustained act of looking. This approach is closely connected to her use of the Gum Print process. Gum printing involves mixing pigment with a light-sensitive solution, applying it onto paper, exposing it to light, and then washing the surface with water to reveal the image. Rather than being completed in a single print, the image is built up gradually through repeated layers, with colors and forms accumulating over time. In this process, the image is not mechanically fixed or precisely reproduced. Instead, it subtly shifts depending on the flow of water, the pressure of the hand, and the passage of time. Even when repeating the same image, each print results in a slightly different outcome. Just as the artist observes her subjects “deeply, slowly, and over a long duration,” the gum print process also requires time and patience. Through repeated layering and intervals of waiting, the image slowly emerges, approaching what might be called its most essential state.
The resulting works do not present sharply defined images, but instead exist with soft yet profound layers. They carry what the artist describes as a “balanced weight”—neither too light nor too heavy—inviting viewers not simply to look at an object, but to dwell within its presence. Kim Sookang’s work is not merely photographic; it is the result of accumulated time, attention, and material process. Through the slow and tactile nature of gum printing, she reveals the quiet and contemplative presence of the objects she encounters.
