<Balanced>는 매년 비트리 갤러리에서 개최하는 그룹전으로 올해에는 박영환, 이학민, 지민경 작가 3인과 함께하게 되어 7번째로 열리는 전시이다. <Balanced>전시는 2019년 이경미, 이명호, 이환권 작가를 시작으로 2020년 노준, 정두화, 하지훈 작가, 2021년 심아빈, 원성원, 이태수 작가, 2022년 김은주, 조소희, 황세진 작가, 2023년 이여름, 이상원, 차민영 작가, 2024년 김효선, 윤정희, 조원아 작가와 함께 하였다.
이학민 작가는 익숙한 이미지와 표정을 통해 현대인들의 심리 상태를 반영하고, 이를 유머로 풀어내며 사회적 메시지를 전달하고, 박영환 작가는 시간의 흐름과 기억, 삶과 죽음의 경계를 표현하며 개인의 내면적 갈등과 존재의 의미를 탐색한다. 지민경 작가가 그려내는 어린아이의 순수함과 단조로운 표현이 과거와 현재가 변화해 생명력 있는 모습으로 인간의 감정과 자연의 조화를 그려낸다는 점에서 내면의 성장과 태도를 시각적으로 표현하고 있다. 이 세 작가는 각기 다른 방식으로 삶, 시간, 내면의 이야기를 풀어내며, 관람자가 작가들의 작품을 통해 개인적, 사회적 메시지에 대해 생각해 보도록 유도하고 있다는 공통점이 있다.
3월 6일(목)부터 비트리 갤러리 서울점에서 열리는 <Balanced Vol.7>전시에 오셔서 각자만의 색을 가진 3인의 완성도 높은 작품을 관람하고, 작가들이 전달하고자 하는 이야기를 경험해 보시기 바랍니다.

함도하 Doha Ham
가구 디자이너이자 아티스트인 함도하(b.1978)는 2016년 홍익대 목조형 가구 디자인 석사학위를 받은 후 다양한 전시를 통해 감정 표현을 위한 의인화 가구 작업을 선보여왔다. 또한 바디프렌드, 삼성 구호(KUHO) 등 주요 기업들과의 협업은 물론, 지속적인 해외 활동을 통해 대중과 소통해오고 있다. 작가는 “사람들은 거짓된 얼굴로 진실한 감정을 가린다며 나는 예술 가구로 진실한 감정을 나타내고 싶다고 했다. 이런 작가의 생각은 작가가 가구를 의인화 하고 싶어한다는 뜻이기도 하다. 함도하 작가는 작가노트에서 예술 가구는 사용하고 감상할때 사람들과 교감하고 친밀해진다며 다음과 같이 적고 있다. “현대 사회에서 사람들은 종종 가짜 평평한 페르소나의 얼굴 뒤에 진실한 감정을 숨긴다. 예술 가구를 통해, 나는 현대인에게 순수한 인간 감정의 활기찬 곡선과 가장자리에 불을 붙이려고 노력한다. 애니메이션 의자부터 한국의 전통 캐비넷에 이르기까지 도구로서의 실용성과 기능적 목적을 유지할 뿐만 아니라 상호작용적으로 예술적 가치와 인간성을 불어넣는 예술 장르로서의 가구의 다재다능함을 만지작거린다.
Doha Ham(b.1978), a furniture designer and artist, has presented anthropomorphic furniture work to express emotions through various exhibitions since receiving a master’s degree in wooden furniture design at Hongik University in 2016. In addition, it has been communicating with the public through continuous overseas activities as well as collaboration with major companies such as Body Friend and Samsung Relief (KUHO).
The artist said, “People cover up true emotions with false faces, and I want to show true emotions with art furniture.” Doha Ham’s idea also means that the artist wants to personify furniture. In the artist’s note, writes that art furniture communicates and becomes intimate with people when used and appreciated.
“In modern society, people often hide their true feelings behind the face of a fake flat persona. Through art furniture, I try to ignite the vibrant curves and edges of pure human emotion to modern people. From animation chairs to traditional Korean cabinets, it not only maintains practicality and functional purpose as a tool, but also touches on the versatility of furniture as an art genre that interactively instills artistic value and humanity.I want to redefine furniture as an interactive object that can gently rekindle empathy and humanity, not as everyday tools or pointless ornaments. I hope that the new potential of art furniture media will continue to be discovered, and as a result, a new way of seeing and appreciating objects beyond what is visible in the world of social art will be opened..”
