양유완 작가는 정형적인 형태에서 탈피하여 작가만의 시각으로 새로운 형태를 창조합니다. 1250도에서 액화 상태가 된 유리를 파이프 끝에 말아, 입으로 불어서 부풀리는 불로 잉기법을 주로 작업합니다. 일상 속에서 사용할 수 있는 실용적이면서 다른 소재와 결 합을 통해 다양한 작업을 시도합니다. 투명함과 불투명, 모던과 클래식, 동양과 서양의 아름다움을 믹스매치하는 작업에 집 중하고 있으며, 조금은 투박하지만 언제나 새로운 느낌을 받을 수 있는 유리 작업을 지향합니다. 다양한 사람들과의 만남, 대화를 통해 영감을 얻고 다양한 인종과 문화 그리고 작게는 취향이 있듯 작가는 본인의 유리 작업 속에 다양성을 표현하고자 한다. 양유완 작가의 모와니 글라스 작품은 파손된 유리를 재활용하지 않는다는 점도 작가만의 아이덴티티중 하나인데, 작가는 유리 공예품에서 ‘투명도’를 유지하는게 중요하다 말한다. 투명도를 위해 재활용은 지양한다고 한다. 다양한 스토리를 재해석하여 아름다움을 담아낸 세련되고 모던한 유리작품을 만드는 양유완 작가의 작품에 많은 관심 바랍니다.
Artist Yang Woowan breaks away from conventional forms, creating new shapes through her unique perspective. She primarily works with the glassblowing technique, shaping molten glass at 1250°C by gathering it on the end of a pipe and inflating it by blowing through the pipe. Her work often explores practicality for everyday use, combining glass with other materials to experiment in diverse ways. She focuses on mixing and matching elements such as transparency and opacity, modern and classic styles, and Eastern and Western aesthetics. Though her glasswork may appear slightly rough, it always aims to offer a fresh and unique impression.
Inspired by encounters and conversations with a wide range of people, she expresses diversity in her creations—reflecting different races, cultures, and even individual preferences. One of the defining aspects of Yang Woowan’s brand, Mowani Glass, is that she does not use recycled glass. She believes that maintaining clarity and transparency in her pieces is crucial, and for that reason, she avoids using reused materials.
